What Every Expecting Couple MUST Know About Asthma And Pregnancy

When you are pregnant and you have asthma, your major concern should be your safety and that of your unborn child.

Extreme care is important to be able to stay safe from asthmatic attacks when you are pregnant.

Imagine how disastrous it will be for you and your unborn child if you always expose yourself to asthmatic attacks daily.

Below are WAYS you should take to protect yourself and unborn child from the dangers of asthma:

Prevention- The first step is to prevent asthmatic attacks in the first place. You should avoid things that can trigger your asthma, such as smoke, dust, strong smell, and the likes. In this first step, the maxim is true that “Prevention is better than cure”, especially with your pregnancy and asthmatic condition.

Also, keep your home, especially bedding, free from dust mites by always getting quality vacuuming and decontamination done for you. This will help you a lot to get rid of dust and dust mites… to a large extent.

You could also take preventive asthma drugs that are safe for your unborn child, as a pregnant woman. Such preventive asthma drugs include steroid inhalers with Becotide; Cromoglycate; Theophylline; Relievers; Salbutamol… to mention a few.

These preventive asthma drugs have been used for ages by many pregnant asthmatic victims without any harmful effect on the unborn babies.

Note that before taking these preventive asthmatic drugs, you should consult with your doctor and make sure you tell him you are pregnant, so that you will know how best to advice you. And he will know the best drugs you should take.

Also, always have your inhaler close by to use in case you experience any asthmatic triggers.

Most especially, you should not stay too far away from help when you are pregnant. Like I said “prevention is better than cure”, so it pays to always stay close to source of help when you are asthmatic and pregnant.

You don’t want to experience an asthmatic attack when you are pregnant and not to have someone around to help you out. Trust me on that.

Asthma Tips That Many Don’t Know-2

I get very surprised when people don’t do all within their power to protect themselves and their loved ones, especially their children, from asthma.

If you belong to these categories of people, then the below facts of statistics should put you in a better perspective of the inherent danger of this disease.

Asthma is so serious, especially in the developed world like the United States, that it is now considered a national epidemic.

This is because of the increase of cases of asthma, not only in adults but also among little children.

Asthma is so prevalent in children that it is estimated to have risen by as much as 160 percent over the past 15 years.

So, if you don’t want to be among the above statistics, then do all within your power to prevent yourself, your children, your spouse and your loved ones from exposure to circumstances or lifestyles that may expose them to asthma.

Some of the factors that trigger asthmatic attacks include:

  • Weather changes
  • Environmental pollution
  • Upper respiratory infections
  • Allergies to smoke, dust mites, pollens, animal dander, mold/mildew etc.

A simple way to prevent or handle asthma is to know the things that trigger your asthma and do all you can to stay away from such asthma triggers. No matter what has been said about asthma nonetheless, it’s no longer a killer disease, thanks to the advancement of modern medical science and technology.

Asthma cases are now on the increase.

Yes, you heard me right! Asthma cases are on the increase and who knows… if you don’t try to prevent it, you, you friends, your relatives, your loved ones or even your little and innocent children might be the next sufferers of this disease.

You see, there is now a prevalence of asthma cases than previously. It is estimated that there is an increase in more than 60 percent between the period of 1982 and 1994! This is a staggering increase. And the worse news is that this increase is more prevalent in children.

The bad news is not yet over about this. Another equally bad news is that the deaths from asthma have also increased dramatically. From 1979 to 1992 there has been an increase in the death rate of asthma sufferers of more than 55 percent!

Alarming you would agree, right?

So, asthma is not a disease to be handled with kid gloves. And it is not a respecter of persons. No matter who you are, it can just be lurking around the corner. It occurs in people of all sexes, ages, ethnic groups and socioeconomic levels.

So, there is the need for all the enlightenment you can get about this disease. With the right enlightenment you will know what to do to prevent it and also to treat it when it rears its ugly head in your home or life.

to be continued…
